Originally settled by English in the 1700’s, Halifax, Massachusetts is located in Plymouth County, thirty-nine miles from Boston. Halifax is mostly residential with a modest retail area in the center of town. In the 19th century, the railroad came to Hadley and provided access to Silver Lake and Monponsett Ponds.

There are many accessible bodies of water in Halifax including; Silver Lake, the Monponsett Ponds, the Taunton River, Robins Pond, Indian Trail Reservoir and Burrage Pond.
