The Boston Globe was started in 1872 by Boston businessmen, led by Eben Jordan. The first issue was published on March 4, 1872, and cost just four cents. The Globe was a private company up until 1973 when it became a subsidiary of the newly formed Affiliated Publications. The Boston Globe relocated its building to the Dorchester section of Boston in 1958, where it currently resides.
