Franklin is the only city in Massachusetts with the same name as a county, but not located within that county. Franklin is located in Norfolk County, while Franklin County is located 60 miles away.

In 2007, Family Circle Magazine named Franklin, MA one of the top ten towns to raise a family in the United States. The Little Red Brick School is believed to be one of the oldest operating one-room schoolhouses. By 2008, it had been open for 175 years. The Franklin Public Library, believed to be one of the first libraries built in the United States, holds books donated by Benjamin Franklin. The library’s beautiful marble staircases and frescoed walls bring history to life.
