Waltham, Mass. Town Travel Business Vacation & Relocation Information
The ‘Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution’, Waltham, Massachusetts, was the original home of the Boston Manufacturing Company. Waltham was used as a prototype for 19th century industrial city planning. Today, the town has transformed into a place for research and higher education, being home to Brandeis University and Bentley University. In 1854, the Waltham Watch Company opened and was the first company to make watches on an assembly line. Producing over 40 million watches, clocks, and instruments before closing in 1957, the Watch Company won a gold medal at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. All of this earned Waltham its nickname, ‘Watch City’, which still holds today.
